Your vision, our craftsmanship
Joe and Caroline met gutting flooded houses in New Orleans the summer after Katrina. He grew up in Winchester, spending weekends tearing out walls with his dad and his grandfather. She grew up in Richmond and was finishing an Interior Design degree at VCU.
Joe went on to inspect homes for a living, which is why he still looks at the attic and the crawl space before he looks at the cabinets. Caroline designed homes and hotels. They came back to Winchester, began their work at Sidney, and bought a fixer upper for themselves.
Joe has a line he uses at the first meeting. There is the chain restaurant, and there is the little place down the street that makes the pasta by hand. We are the pasta place. It costs a bit more, and you can taste it.

We solve problems, create flow, and make homes feel like they finally fit
A lot of houses around here were built for another era. Kitchens closed off from everything. One full bath for five people. A basement nobody goes in.
We take those houses and make them work for the family living in them now. Sometimes that means moving a wall. Sometimes it is a new vanity and better light. The point where how it works, how it looks and what it costs all line up is different for every family, so we find it with you instead of handing you a package.
Straight answers, no fluff, and work that still looks right for years to come.
Why Winchester homeowners call Sidney
Nothing is cookie cutter
We start with the house you already have. The bump in the hallway, the window you love, the cabinet you keep hitting your head on. Then we design around it.
A designer at the table
Caroline holds a degree in Interior Design from VCU. She and our design team sit down with you before anyone swings a hammer, and you pick finishes with the samples in your hand.
One team, start to finish
Your project manager runs the job, our office keeps the schedule and the paperwork straight, and Joe and Caroline stay involved from the first meeting to the final walkthrough.
Rooted in the community
Giving back matters to us. We support South End Fire Company, our neighbor on Loudoun Street, and other local causes, because a strong community is the best foundation there is. We moved downtown on purpose.

What our clients say
How a project runs
Meet and greet
Joe or Caroline comes out, or you come to Loudoun Street. Bring the photos you have been saving. We ask what bugs you about the space now and what you want it to be.
Design it, if you like
Some projects start on paper: we lay out the space, pull samples, and bigger jobs get a 3D rendering so you can stand in the kitchen before it exists. Others go straight to pricing. Your call.
Price it in writing
Joe talks through your wish list and puts together a detailed proposal with allowances. You see the number in writing before anything gets ordered or torn out.
Build it, then walk it
Our crew does the work and your project manager keeps you posted. At the end we walk every room with you and make sure it is everything you expected, built to last for decades to come.
Homeowners who plan to stay
Most of the people we work for are somewhere in their forties to sixties. The kids are old enough that a new kitchen will survive them, and they plan to be in the house a long time. Some are thinking ahead to getting older in it. Some just ran out of bedrooms.
Not everybody wants a magazine kitchen, and that is fine. A tired 1990 kitchen with oak cabinets and a laminate top can come out clean, bright and still built for you. Tell us your number and we will tell you what it buys.
- Kitchens and baths that have not been touched in decades
- Aging in place and accessibility updates
- More room for a growing family
- Historic homes that need careful hands

Where we work
Our trucks leave from Loudoun Street. Most jobs are in Frederick and Clarke counties, and we go as far as Leesburg, Strasburg and Martinsburg for the right project.
Questions we get asked
- What happens at the free consultation?
We walk the space with you, ask what is not working, and talk about your budget and scope. It happens at your house or at the showroom, 603 S Loudoun St. No charge, and nobody is going to push a contract across the table.
- Do you handle design, or do I need an architect or designer?
We handle it. Caroline and our design team work through the layout, finishes and selections with you, with design boards and 3D renderings when the project needs them. Larger structural work gets the engineering it needs, and a new home or an addition needs stamped plans from an architect. We are happy to recommend one and coordinate the drawings with you.
- What kinds of projects do you take on?
Kitchens and bathrooms most of all, plus groutless showers, custom closets, additions, whole home renovations, new custom homes and interior design, plus decks, porches and sunrooms. See all services.
- Are you licensed?
Yes. Sidney Design & Build is a Class A licensed contractor in Virginia and carries insurance on every job.
- Which towns do you work in?
Winchester and Frederick County, plus Stephens City, Middletown, Front Royal, Berryville, Strasburg, Purcellville, Leesburg, Charles Town and Martinsburg. See the service area.
Ready to talk about your project?
Call the office or send the form. We will set a time to look at the space, at your house or ours.
